Tea tree oil is derived from the leaves of the tea tree. The tea tree was named by eighteenth century sailors, who made tea that smelled like nutmeg from the leaves of the tree growing on the swampy southeast Australian coast. Do not confuse the tea tree with the unrelated common tea plant that is used to make black and green teas.
Tea tree oil is applied to the skin (used topically) for infections such as acne, fungal infections of the nail, lice, and athletes foot. It is also used topically as a local antiseptic for cuts and abrasions, for burns, insect bites, stings, boils, toothache, infections of the mouth and nose, sore throat, and for ear infections.
Some people add it to bath water to treat cough, bronchial congestion.
The chemicals in tea tree oil may kill bacteria and fungus, and reduce allergic skin reactions.
Before using this oil like others please check with your Dr. first and do more reading on it. Please check labels to make sure it is 100 percent pure.
I am continuing reading and learning about Essential Oils. If this is something that might be of interest, then the following is a good way to start. Everyone should start with a basic care kit. These are the most versatile and useful essential oils for the home. Here is the list:
- TEA TREE
Today I will discuss Lavender which is one of my favorites.
How to Use Lavender Essential Oil
Traditional Precautions of Lavender Essential Oil
Always test for skin sensitivity prior to widespread use and use on the feet when possible. Excessive use of any oil can lead to skin sensitization. Keep out of eyes, ears, or nose. Not all oils are created equal, so test brands carefully, and never use an oil in a way not recommended by its maker.
Popular Uses of Lavender Essential Oil
- Add a few drops of Lavender to pillows, bedding, or bottoms of feet for a restful night’s sleep.
- Keep a bottle of Lavender on hand for minor and occasional skin irritations.
- Freshen your linen closet, mattress, car, or the air by combining Lavender with water in a spray bottle.
- Add to bath water to soak away stress or apply to the temples and the back of the neck to ease muscle tension.
- Use in cooking to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods, and desserts.
- Lavender can help you to feel more grounded and focused, helping you concentrate and think clearly when used aromatically throughout the room or home, or just on your body.
- Diffuse pure lavender oil in the air or inhale directly for at least 30 seconds as needed to manage mood.

I have always been using Essential Oils in soaps, scrubs and serum that I make. I wanted to start using them in a diffuser in my home. I have been burning candles for years ,but the more I read about them I came to the conclusion they are really not good to burn. Especially if they are not soy candles. They have bad pollutants and I was burning them everyday. That was my decision to go with diffusing Essential Oils. I went out and bought two diffusers. I decided for now ,to place them in the living room and bathroom. You can move them around if you want. Now I have started to read up on essential oils like the different types and what is good for over all health. I decided I would write about some of my findings and information as I go along.
There are 300 Essential Oils that are used today all over the world. Essential Oils are extracted from certain trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses and flowers. The oil is concentrated in different parts of the plant. Some oils actually come from certain seeds of the flowers. I was amazed what it took to make an Essential Oil and now I know why they are very expensive. For example, sixty thousand rose blossoms are required to produce one ounce of rose oil. Most are picked by hand and there are certain times of the day flowers can be picked. Plus at what stage the flower is. There are so many parts to making an Essential Oil.
Essential Oils are used in so many ways. Besides Beauty, Health and Healing, they are used in cooking, gardening and even helps some pets. As I get further along I will be posting information on Essential Oils. Right now I am diffusing Lemon Oil and it smells great.!!
